Playing Games on YouTube: A Guide to Playables on Google’s Video Streaming Platform | Latest Tech Updates

Google has recently introduced a new feature on its popular video streaming platform, YouTube. The feature, known as YouTube Playables, allows users to play games directly within the YouTube app or website. This exciting addition was announced in 2023 and has now graduated from the initial testing phase, with over 75 games available for users to enjoy.

During the initial testing phase, Google offered 30 games as part of YouTube Playables. However, the catalogue has since expanded to include a variety of games, ranging from classic titles like Chess and Solitaire to popular games like Angry Birds Showdown, Words of Wonders, Cut the Rope, Tomb of the Mask, and Trivia Crack. This diverse selection aims to cater to a wide range of gaming preferences and interests.

To access YouTube Playables, users can simply open the YouTube app on their Android or iOS device, or visit the YouTube homepage using a browser on any PC. From there, they can navigate to the „Explore Menu“ to find Playables and browse through the available games. Users can choose a game, play it using touchscreen controls on mobile devices or a mouse/trackpad on desktops, and even share the games with friends via the three-dot menu.

One of the standout features of YouTube Playables is that YouTube premium users have the option to continue playing videos in the background while muting the game audio. Additionally, paid subscribers can save their game progress and track their all-time best scores, adding a competitive element to the gaming experience.

Unlike other platforms that require users to download separate gaming apps, YouTube Playables offers a seamless and convenient way to access a variety of games directly within the YouTube app or website. This eliminates the need for additional downloads and provides users with a hassle-free gaming experience.

While YouTube Playables is currently available in select countries as part of an experimental rollout, it is expected to be rolled out to more users in the near future. India, for example, is not yet among the countries where Playables is available, but it is anticipated to receive this feature once the general rollout commences.

In conclusion, YouTube Playables is a welcome addition to the YouTube platform, offering users a fun and engaging way to play games without the need for separate downloads. With a growing catalogue of games and exciting features for premium users, YouTube Playables is set to enhance the overall entertainment experience for YouTube users worldwide.
